New Delhi, December 10, 2023:A man was detained by Delhi Police for fabricating a woman’s social media profile and sharing her images with lewd remarks.
Gopal Karaliya, a resident of Pune, Maharashtra, has been named as the accused.
The National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) was used to submit a complaint, according to the police, to the Police Station Cyber North Delhi.
The 20-year-old complainant claimed to have met and begun a conversation with an unidentified person on Instagram in 2018, according to the police.
The complaint states that over time, the accused began pressuring her to enter into a marriage outside of her religion. But the cops claimed that after the complainant stopped communicating with him, he began using her photos to create fictitious Instagram profiles.
He allegedly defamed the complainant’s reputation on these Instagram accounts by posting lewd content and offensive remarks about her.
Using the complainant’s photos, the accused allegedly made two new Instagram IDs using her name and offensive language in an attempt to discredit her.
The PS Cyber North District in Delhi received a complaint under sections 354-D/500/509 of the IPC, and an investigation was launched.
According to the police, the identity of the purported user behind these Instagram IDs was discovered through a thorough technical examination of IP logs and registrant information gleaned from the purported Instagram ID.
Subsequently, the police team initiated round-the-clock monitoring of the suspected mobile numbers, ultimately pinpointing the suspect’s precise location.
Following this, on 04.12.2023, the accused was immediately taken into custody based on technical surveillance.
According to the police, he was thoroughly questioned before being taken into custody in this case.
